ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Due to the health and safety concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the potential for contraction of COVID-19 is deemed a temporary illness. As such, every eligible voter is entitled to be sent an absentee ballot with a postage paid return envelope. Further, due to the resulting ordered closure of schools, personal registration with the school district will not take place for the June 9, 2020 election. In lieu of such registration, individuals can register through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles’ voter registration website at https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application, and be eligible to receive an absentee ballot for the adjourned June 9, 2020 budget vote and election, provided that the individual register before June 4, 2020. Persons who shall have been previously registered for any District annual or special election and who shall have voted at any such District election held in the prior four calendar years (2016-2019), and/or persons who are registered to vote at general elections within the District pursuant to Election Law §352, need not register to be eligible to vote at said Annual District Election and will automatically receive an absentee ballot. Any individuals who are unsure whether they are qualified voters and/or will receive an absentee ballot should contact the District Clerk by email or phone with questions or to confirm if they are registered. Absentee ballots must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the Election and Budget Vote in order to be canvassed.

If you are unsure of whether or not you are properly registered, please call Kerri S. Stevens, District Clerk at kerri.stevens@ehschools.org or 631-329-4104 for verification.

Please Note: A secured ballot box will be placed outside of our Central Office location entrance way located at 4 Long Lane, East Hampton, for those qualified voters who wish to drop off their absentee ballot in lieu of mailing the absentee ballot.

MILITARY VOTERS

Pursuant to Education Law §2018-d, any person serving in the military, including spouses and dependents, may register to vote in the upcoming school district election. A military voter who is a qualified voter of the school district may obtain a registration form by contacting the District Clerk by phone at 631-329-4104, facsimile (631-324-0109), email (kerri.stevens@ehschools.org), mail or Kerri S. Stevens, District Clerk, East Hampton Union Free School District, 4 Long Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937. A military voter who is duly registered may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application form from the District Clerk. Completed applications should be mailed to the District Clerk and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 14, 2020. Completed military ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020 if signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto with a date which is not later than the day before the election, or not later than June 9, 2020, 5:00 p.m. if postmarked or endorsed by an agency of the United States government.
