BuildOn - Another Outstanding Success

2019 BuildOn in Nepal thumbnail119073
On April 19th, 16 juniors and seniors from East Hampton High School left from JFK to fly to Dhakaniya, a remote village in Nepal, where they began to build a school for which they completely raised the funds with the organization buildOn. The students and two teachers, Mr. Barbour and Ms. Jahoda, worked alongside the adults and children from the village digging out the footings and latrines for the school, mixing, transporting and pouring cement and boulders, sifting sand, tying rebar, and so much more, while also practicing yoga with a guru and participating in daily cultural activities. Each student lived with one or two other students in the houses of the villagers and spent the evenings eating and playing together, and communicating despite the language barriers. They are forever changed due to their many experiences on this trip, and the children of Dhakaniya will be able to continue their education due to the efforts of the students, and the many generous contributions from the East Hampton community and the families and friends of the students.
