Family Literacy Exchange Program

Students in Ms. Hernandez's AP Spanish class participated in a language exchange with the Family Literacy students on December 12th and January 9th. Both groups prepared discussion questions that focused on family traditions and culture. The Family Literacy program helps local parents learn and improve their English language skills through weekly 2 hour classes.  Ms. Hernandez's AP Spanish class focuses on the value of bridging gaps in language and cultural perspective with the goal of embracing diversity and cultural identity. Ms. Hernandez and her students felt that combining both classes in an inter-cultural discussion was the best way not only to manifest the course goals, but also provide themselves and the Family Literacy students with a practical way of practicing their target languages.
