With more than 800 runners in attendance and participation from the entire community, the 12th annual EHMS 5K, held May 25, was a great success. The middle school PTA, Ocean Rescue and our high school helpers volunteered and made sure the day went smoothly. We invited schools to run against our team, which was comprised of 16 seventh- and eighth-graders who were selected according to their past 5K times and their mile times from PE class. These students went up against teams from Mattituck, Montauk and Springs to compete for the Bonacker Cup. We have never lost!

After the race, the PTA provided lunch, donated by Villa, for our middle school students. The members of Ocean Rescue, led by Johnny Ryan, ran all of the homeroom-versus-homeroom beach games.

The 5K event is a blast, and one of the biggest of approximately eight to nine events held each year through the Bonac on Board to Wellness Program at the middle school. Thank you to the entire community for another wonderful day, and congratulations to all of our runners!
