Third-graders at JMMES went on an excursion guided by Stacy Meyer of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Program to the East Hampton Duck Pond. They learned about the importance of water quality in this amazingly unique freshwater ecosystem and identified spring indicators such as skunk cabbage, iris plants and animals beginning to emerge from hibernation. They also discussed how important this small habitat is to maintaining the delicate balance of our town and keeping it healthy and clean.
