Students at JMMES took part in the international art and literacy project Pinwheels for Peace on Sept. 21, in conjunction with the International Day of Peace.

After introductory remarks by JMMES Principal Beth Doyle, the entire staff and student body met outside, where they formed a human peace symbol on the field and sang songs about peace.

Not only did the event unify students and staff through song, it also opened up discussion about getting along, solving problems in a peaceful way, and exploring one another’s differences and similarities. The symbolism of the twirling pinwheels is that they will carry along thoughts of peace around the world.
