Students from JMMES recently participated in an excursion to the Village Duck Pond, led by Cornell Cooperative marine biologist Stacy Meyer. Ms. Meyer emphasized the importance of the duck pond and the role it plays in purifying water. She commended East Hampton in caring for their water source, as she and students discovered there was little to no pollutant impact present. Students also learned about the importance of native plants and their impact on the ecosystem.

The district is now forming a group to educate even younger students about the importance of their local duck pond and the impact it has on the environment.
