Theresa Kraycar, an East Hampton High School math teacher was recently honored, along with all Master Teachers, at Governor Andrew Cuomo's State of the State Address on January 21st. The Master Teacher Program is a New York STEM Initiative to enhance the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics courses throughout the state.

There is an extensive application process to be selected as a Master Teacher which includes a content test, recommendations from an administrator, a colleague, and a student , a formal lesson, an interview, and essay writing.

Once accepted into the program, Master Teachers make a commitment to engage in professional development work in addition to their regular school responsibilities. Master Teachers meet regularly to participate in activities that lead to individual and collective professional growth. Master Teachers also participate in leadership workshops to better contribute to departmental discussions and mentor early career and pre-service teachers.
Congratulations Mrs. Kraycar!
